Grizzlies End Preseason With A Win Over Chill

Sep 10, 2018

The Rochester Grizzlies ended their two game preseason on a high note, beating the Coulee Region Chill 4-0 Monday afternoon on the road. This marks the first victory in Grizzlies history. The win is slight payback from Friday, as the Grizzlies fell to the Chill 2-1 on home ice in their first preseason game.

Porter Haney opened the scoring for the Grizzlies in the first period while on the power play. The goal would be Haney’s first of preseason. Logan Olson and Caden Duggan picked up the assists.

Rochester would extend its lead in the second period, scoring two goals in the 20 minutes. Jonny Rowell tallied his first of the preseason with the assist going to Nathan Bennett. Matt DeRosa would then get in on the action, scoring his first, as well. Peyton Hart would get credit with the helper on DeRosa’s goal.

The Grizzlies took a commanding 3-0 into the third period with the help of strong goaltending by Liam Kelly. Joey Fodstad would add an insurance goal, making it 4-0 for Rochester. Kelly would go on to finish with a 31 save shutout.

Rochester ended the preseason with a 1-1 record. The Grizzlies start the regular season Saturday Sep. 15 on the road at Granite City. The home opener for Rochester will be Sep. 21 against Evansville at the Rochester Rec Center.
