ROCHESTER, Minn. – The first commitment of the 2020-21 season for the Rochester Grizzlies belongs to forward Dylan Schneider who announced his intentions to play for Augsburg University.
Schneider, 20, has spent parts of two seasons with the Grizzlies and emerged as a leader on the stat sheet and in the locker room. The Rochester, MN, native made his junior hockey debut with the Minot Minotauros of the NAHL in 2019-20 before coming back to his hometown and dressing in black-and-gold.
“We are very excited for Dylan,” said Grizzlies Head Coach Chris Ratzloff. “It has been great having him here for parts of the past two seasons. He is a great young man who sees and thinks the game at a higher level, and with his skill and the way he shoots the puck, he will have a great collegiate career. We wish Dylan and Auggies all the best in the future.”
Through 16 total games for the Grizzlies, Schneider has racked up 14 goals and registered eight assists. During the 2020-21 season, Schneider’s six goals have him tied for the team lead.
“I’m excited to play for Coach Brown and his staff at Augsburg,” said Schneider. “The Grizzlies have given me so many opportunities. Last year I came to Rochester for a couple of games following shoulder surgery but, I needed a second shoulder surgery and was forced to leave the team. My brief time with them last year was some of the most fun I have ever had playing hockey.”
The 5-foot-10-inch, 160-pound forward is the second member of his family to attend Augsburg, following in the footsteps of his step-brother Rory Vessel. Schneider becomes the eleventh player in Grizzlies history to take his career into the collegiate ranks and is the ninth player to commit to a Division-III school.
Up next for the Grizzlies, they get set for an exhibition game in Mason City on Saturday, December 5 against the North Iowa Bulls. Tickets for the game will be available at the door in Iowa, with all-ages admission priced at $5 per ticket. For those who can’t make it to the game in person, catch the game live on HockeyTV.com.
