ROCHESTER, Minn. – The Rochester Grizzlies announced today the team has made another move, acquiring Butte’s top defenseman in Alexander Wainio in exchange for an NA3HL Tender and cash considerations.
A 2008-born left-handed defenseman, Wainio has notched seven goals and 20 points across 35 contests for the Irish, leading all Butte defensemen in points and second on the team in goals.
The 6-foot-1 blueliner spent the last four years with Biggby Coffee AAA Hockey Academy, totaling 55 points from 13U up to 16U.
At just 17 years old, Wainio has already been called up to the Wisconsin Windigo and Bismarck Bobcats of the NAHL, showcasing his bright future in junior hockey.
The Grizzlies are excited to welcome Wainio to a steady blue line and dangerous forward group as the black and gold continue to gear up for a deep playoff push.
