Grizzlies Start Weekend With Big Win Over Breezy Point

BREEZY POINT, Minn. – After a rough go last weekend, the Rochester Grizzlies started the weekend road trip with a bang, beating the Breezy Point North Stars 8-3. This marks the third straight win over the North Stars for the Grizzlies.

The Grizzlies (11-3-0-0) would draw first blood at the 5:58 mark of the first period as leading goal scorer Vladislav Sorokin scored his 14th goal of the season. Rochester goaltender Nick Bucklin would stop all 10 shots he saw in the first period.

The second period saw the Grizzlies take control of the game. Kory Potach would start the high scoring period, tallying a power play goal just 1:34 into the second. He would add another on the power play at the 10:07 mark.

Rochester would rattle off three more goals in the final half of the period as Richard Szabo would score two with Porter Haney scoring in between the Szabo goals.

Breezy Point would score three straight goals to start the third, giving the team some life. Evan O’Connor, Carson Simon and Jacob Berkowitz would score to cut the lead to 6-3.

Seth Bacon would stop the North Stars’ rally, scoring a power play goal at 15:31 to give the Grizzlies a 7-3 lead. Ryan Lemker would add a shorthanded goal with 49 seconds left to add the icing on the cake for Rochester.

The Grizzlies would finish 4/7 on the power play and 6/7 on the penalty kill, as penalties were a story of the game for both teams. Bacon was given a game misconduct for boarding at the 18:14 mark of the third period. Bucklin would pick up the win in net, stopping 21 of 24 shots.

These two teams are back at it from Breezy Point Saturday night at 7:30. The Grizzlies are back home Saturday, Nov 10 at 7:05 for Military Night.
