New Ulm “Steals” Preseason Finale from Grizzlies

Sep 11, 2021

ROCHESTER, MN- In the final tune-up game for the Grizzlies before regular season starts, Rochester falls to New Ulm by the final of 4-3.

In the first meeting between the two clubs since the 2018-2019 season, the new look Steel came into Rochester with a plan. Ryler Schelle would break the ice as the Steel would sneak one past Grizzlies net-minder, Zach Wiese, to give the Steel the early 1-0 lead. New Ulm would then add another as, Jack Laser, would unleash a snipe from the top of the face-off dots make it 2-0.   A little over 2 minutes later, Rochester’s, Max Clark, would get a nice rebound off the initial shot from Kade Shea to end the period at 2-1 for New Ulm.

Rochester, who never led, would see the lead go back to 2 as the Steel’s Lahoussine Salama would find the back of the net on the Power Play to make it 3-1. Grizzlies would get a power play goal themselves as veteran, Cole Gibson, would score making it 3-2 going into the 3rd period.

The 3-2 lead would stay the same for New Ulm for most of the 3rd period until Austin Meers would tie things up at 3-3 with 6 minutes left to play. That tie game wouldn’t last long though as Max Rotsaert would score the eventual game-winner to give New Ulm the 4-3 win.

The regular season starts Friday for the Grizzlies as they start their Central Division Title Defense against the Oregon Tradesmen. Puck drop is set for 7:30 pm CST and can be seen and heard live on HockeyTV.
