Newman, Haney Selected in NAHL Draft

DALLAS, Texas – Two more members of the Rochester Grizzlies were selected in the North American Hockey League Draft on Tuesday. Forward Lucas Newman was taken in the 13th round by first-year organization New Mexico Ice Wolves while defenseman/forward Porter Haney went to the Corpus Christi IceRays in round 14.

Newman, a Rochester, MN native, completed his first season in the NA3HL this past year. He appeared in 46 out of 47 regular season games and finished fourth on the team in scoring with 43 points (16 goals, 27 assists). He also appeared in all three Fraser Cup Playoff games for Rochester. Prior to joining the Grizzlies, Newman, 18, played high school hockey for Rochester Lourdes. He will join former Austin Bruins Assistant Coach Keenan Kelly with the Ice Wolves.

Haney also completed his first year in the NA3HL in the 2018-19 season. A native of Duluth, MN, Haney also appeared in 46 out of 47 regular season games for the Grizzlies. He started the year playing predominately center, but was shifted back to defense due to injuries. Haney was eighth on the team with 31 points (eight goals, 23 assists) and played in all three Fraser Cup Playoff games, picking up an assist.
