Feb 9, 2025

Rochester, MN — The Polar Bears came into the evening with revenge in their eyes as the Woodsmen took game 1 of the weekend last night, 6-4. The Polar Bears riding with Joey Bertram in net tonight, and the Woodsmen, Lleyton Jaschke. The Jerseys worn this weekend also are still up for auction until tomorrow night at 11:59PM  with all proceeds going towards the Polar Plunge and Special Olympics Minnesota.

Cooper Johnson(2) would get the Polar Bears going with a goal in the first, off an assist from Brody Olson. The Grizzlies would take the 1-0 lead into the break. The Second period is where the game busted open, with 2 goals from the Woodsmen, May-Robinson(14), and Lazo(17). But also 24 total penalty minutes were handed out in the middle frame, setting the fans up for what we would guess to be, a very physical 3rd period.

The 3rd period would prove why the 2 goal lead is the worst in hockey. After Svosil(6) would score in ther opening minute of the game, the Woodsmen would have a 2 goal lead, but the Polar Bears weren’t laying down without a fight. Noah GIllette(13) would score just seconds after Svosil, Bringing the Grizzlies to within 1. Noah Gillette(13) would score the game tying goal, midway through the period, setting the stage for a great finish.

With just over 5 minutes left in the game, Felix Wadstromer(4) would beat Jaschke, and put the Polar Bears ahead with what would be the game winning goal. 70 total Penalty Minutes were handed out in this game, and the Polar Bears would pull out with the 4-3 Win.

Joey Bertram would stop 31/34 shots, in route to his 5th wins on the season for the Polar Bears.
