Sauk Rapids, MN — The Grizzlies made the 2.5 hour trip from Rochester to take on Granite City tonight, for the final time this season. Over the last 2 seasons the Grizzlies have had a treterous record against the Lumberjacks, going 1-8-1-1 over the last 2 seasons. Rochester has struggle to put complete weekends together, so having only 1 game this weekend will hopefully put the Grizzlies in a position to gain momentum heading into a 4 game homestand.
1st period opens with big hits and fast play as both teams hungry for a win against a rival. About 8 minutes in, Parker Comstock(13) beat Dubin to put the Lumberjacks in the goal column first. 8 Minutes later the Grizzlies were on a 5-on-3 powerplay and with a pretty display of passing, Noah Gillette found Aiden Emerich for a One-Timer and Mason Decker(13) tipped it in passed Peterson tying the game at 1 going to the 1st intermission.
2nd period saw Mason Decker(14) scoring his 2nd of the game on the Powerplay 6 minutes into the second. About 6 minutes later, Easton Sankey(1), gets first goal iof the season, beating Dubin five hole as it trickeld in barely over the line. The game was tied at 2 going to intermission.
The 3rd period opened with Ty Smith(14) scoring a Powerplay goal 5 minutes in and putting the Lumberjacks up 3-2. Shortly after Caleb Alderson(12) would beat Dubin making it 4-2. Late in the 3rd, Head Coach Tyler Veen pulled Dubin for the Extra Attacker and Josh Wolf(4) would finally beat Peterson to bring the Grizzlies within 1 goal. Unfortunately time would run out on the Grizzlies hope of a comeback and they would fall 4-3 to the Granite City Lumberjacks.
The Grizzlies are back at home for the next 2 weekends, taking on the St.Louis Jr Blues on 1-17/18 and the Peoria Mustangs on 1-24/25 at the Rochester Rec Center. Both games will be at 7:05pm!
